KNOWING GOD, UNION, AND THE VOICE OF GOD

Why Christology, Union, and Distinction Without Separation Matter More Than You Think

By Prophet of Grace PAULYB

Many believers say they want to hear the voice of God.
But what they are often really saying is that they want clarity.

They want to know which thoughts are God.
They want to know which impressions are safe.
They want to know whether what they are sensing is revelation or imagination.

The problem is not hunger.
The problem is not sincerity.
The problem is that many people are trying to hear God without first knowing who God is.

Jesus made it very clear that eternal life is not primarily about behavior, discipline, or effort.
He said eternal life is knowing God.

Knowing God is not gathering facts about Him.
Knowing God is living in relationship with Him.

And relationship determines perception.

WHY THE VOICE OF GOD CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM CHRISTOLOGY

Christology is a large word that simply means the understanding of who Jesus truly is.

This matters because God does not speak to humanity apart from Jesus.
God speaks through Jesus, and always in a way consistent with Jesus.

Many people attempt to hear God while holding a distorted image of Him.
When God is imagined as distant, unpredictable, or conditional, His “voice” will be perceived in those same ways.

Jesus is the full revelation of God.
Not a partial picture.
Not a softer version.
Not a New Testament correction of an angry Father.

Jesus shows us exactly what God sounds like.

If a voice speaks with accusation, shame, fear, or distance, it is not revealing God as Jesus revealed Him.
No matter how spiritual it sounds.

THE HYPOSTATIC UNION: WHY GOD’S VOICE IS RELATIONAL, NOT EXTERNAL

The hypostatic union is one of the most important truths in Christianity, yet it is rarely explained clearly.

It simply means that in Jesus, God and humanity are fully united in one person.

Jesus is not half God and half man.
He is not God pretending to be human.
He is not a man temporarily empowered by God.

He is fully God and fully human at the same time, without confusion and without separation.

Why does this matter?

Because when God joined Himself to humanity in Jesus, human life became the place where God speaks.

God did not save humanity from the outside.
He saved humanity from the inside.

This corrects a major error in charismatic thinking: the belief that God’s voice must always come from somewhere else.

Because God truly entered human life, God now speaks within relationship, not merely from heaven.

THEOSIS: PARTICIPATION WITHOUT DEIFICATION

Theosis is another word that has been misunderstood or avoided.

It does not mean becoming God.
It does not mean losing your humanity.
It does not mean that your thoughts automatically become divine.

Theosis means participation.

Participation means that human beings are brought into God’s life by grace, not by nature.

You do not become God.
But you share in God’s relationship, love, and sonship through Jesus.

Your humanity remains human.
But it is healed, filled, and oriented toward God.

This matters for hearing God because it teaches us that God is not merely speaking at us.
He is speaking with us, from within communion.

WHERE WRONG THINKING ENTERED THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT

There are two common errors that distort how people hear God.

Error One: Collapse Without Distinction

This happens when people say things like:
“Christ is in me, so everything I think is God.”
“I am God speaking.”
“There is no difference between my voice and God’s voice.”

This removes discernment entirely.

Union is real, but identity is not erased.
You do not become the source of revelation.
You remain a participant.

Error Two: Separation Without Union

This happens when people believe:
“God only speaks audibly.”
“God only speaks from heaven.”
“If I don’t hear a voice, God is silent.”

This creates striving, fear, and insecurity.

Both errors are corrected by one truth:

Distinction without separation.

βΈ»

DISTINCTION WITHOUT SEPARATION EXPLAINED CLEARLY

Distinction means:
You are not God.
You do not replace Jesus.
You are not infallible.

Without separation means:
God is not distant.
God is not external only.
God truly lives in you by His Spirit.

Union does not erase humanity.
Union heals humanity.

This balance protects believers from deception while allowing deep intimacy.

THE TRINITARIAN MOVEMENT: HOW GOD ACTUALLY SPEAKS

God’s life moves in a relational flow:
From the Father
Through the Son
By the Holy Spirit

And then a return:
By the Spirit
Through the Son
Back to the Father

Jesus lived His entire human life inside this movement.

By the Spirit of Jesus, believers are brought into that same relational flow.

This means God’s voice is not transactional.
It is relational.

God is not issuing commands from a distance.
He is guiding sons and daughters from within communion.

βΈ»

DOXOLOGY: WHY GOD’S VOICE INVITES RESPONSE, NOT CONTROL

Doxology means a return of life, love, and worship to God.

God’s speaking is not about control.
It is about communion.

When God speaks, He is not dominating the will.
He is inviting alignment.

This corrects another misunderstanding: that hearing God is about being told what to do constantly.

Often, God speaks to reveal who He is and who you are, not just what to do next.

βΈ»

HOMOOUSIOS: WHY JESUS IS THE MEASURE OF ALL VOICES

This word means that Jesus shares the same divine being as the Father and the Spirit.

Jesus is not a messenger who might misrepresent God.
He is God revealing Himself.

This is why Jesus is the standard for discernment.

If a voice does not reflect the life, love, and character revealed in Jesus, it is not God.

βΈ»

HOW GOD’S VOICE IS PERCEIVED, NOT FORCED

Because of union, God’s voice is most often perceived, not audibly heard.

Perception is not imagination.
It is relational awareness shaped by truth.

God’s voice often comes as:
• Inner clarity
• Gentle conviction
• Peaceful knowing
• Loving correction

Fear-based voices come from separation thinking.
God’s voice comes from union.

βΈ»

WHY THIS MASTERS THE VOICE OF GOD

You do not master the voice of God through formulas.
You master the voice of God by knowing the God who speaks.

Right Christology produces right perception.
Right union stabilizes discernment.
Right identity removes fear.

Hearing God becomes normal, not mystical.

βΈ»

ACTIVATION: TRAINING ACCURATE PERCEPTION

Ask this simple question:

“Father, reveal Yourself to me through Jesus right now.”

Do not strive.
Do not force words.

Receive what aligns with truth, love, and peace.

That is perception trained by union.

βΈ»

FINAL WORD

Knowing God is eternal life.
Eternal life is participation.
Participation forms perception.
Perception clarifies God’s voice.

This is not advanced Christianity.
This is foundational Christianity.
